Sierra Leone News: Amusement park tells their own story

One would wonder whether the incident which took place on Saturday 24th November 2018 at the Park was supposed to have happened at all amidst all the pool guards employed at the Park to look after children who come to play and swim at the Amusement Park.  According to the general overseer at the Amusement Park, Hawanatu Leigh, the deceased came to the park alone and paid to swim to the one who sells tickets there. Madam Leigh said the pool attendants were not at the pool when the deceased got there, but he was asked by the one who sells the ticket to wait for the pool attendant who only showed up when the 12 year had drowned to guard him while swimming. Madam Leigh explained that the boy jumped into the adult pool instead of the children’s pool where he got drowned. She said the deceased was given Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), and was taken to the Connaught Hospital where he was pronounced dead by a medical doctor. According to officials at the Connaught Hospital, no record of the deceased is there. A medical personnel at the hospital said if the boy was brought alive records would have been taken. Since there is no record of him, he may have been brought dead and taken to the mortuary. She added that if the deceased had died at the hospital he would not have been taken directly to the mortuary but to the observation room. It could be recalled that the 12 year old boy named Cedric Macfoy allegedly drowned at the Amusement Park, and later a post-mortem was done by the country’s only pathologist, Dr. Simeon Owizz Koroma who confirmed that the deceased died as a result of “wet drowning”.   ASP Sannoh said police are still investigating the said matter.  Meanwhile, the deceased is yet to be laid to rest for the government and law makers have swiftly showed interest on the issue and have moved a motion in Parliament that the Amusement Park be closed for the main time.
