Sierra Leone Sports: Sarah Johnson wins Coach of the Year

The first woman female coach for Cricket female team, Sarah Johnson, has won the National team Coach of the Year at the Union Cricket Awards held at St. Edwards Secondary School, Kingtom. Sarah Johnson was shortlisted among the best three which include two male coaches Mustapha Kallon and George Kpundeh. Johnson said she has been motivated more winning the award, and that it is a sign that she is working but she is going to dedicate the award to the players who were able to live up to her expectations. According to Jacob Mansaray, one of the members of the Union, as a captain Sarah Johnson won the North West Africa Cricket Council (NWACC) in the Gambia and also as head coach she defended the trophy in Ghana. Some other winners included Ann Marie Kamara, who won the best Women’s Cricketer of the year. Edward Ngegba won the Men’s cricketer of the year. Raymond Coker won the best boys cricketer of the year while Fatu Pessima won the girls cricketer of the year. Cricket Captain of All-time went to Ibrahim Omarr Sesay and the best cricket sport reporter goes to Alieu Bockarie. John Hunt a member of the British High Commission/DFID gave the keynote address.  Commenting on the Awards, Emmanuel Pessima, President, Class of 2009 U19 Cricket Union, said, “The Awards ceremony was a big success and we will learn from this first event and hopefully the 2019 event will be bigger and better. “Thanks to our corporate sponsors (Gulf Mineral Water, Basha Bakery & Restaurant, Super Holding Ltd, Red Lion Bakery, Kadco, and Shankerdas) and all our individual Awards sponsors (Abdul Tejan-Cole, Dr. Harold Greene, Ibrahim Omarr Sesay, Mohamed Tombo Kamara, Unisa Dumbuya aka Spar, Mohamed Tutan Dumbuya, Abdul Samu and Abubakarr Bangura” said Pessima.
