Former Vice President Chief Alhaji Samuel Sam Sumana yesterday 8 January 2019 described the act by the Sierra Leone Police to remove his Operational Support Division (OSD) security personnel from his house with orders from above as corruption. “This is corruption because they are not going by the dictates of the Constitution and I will fight for the justice of this country until my last blood drop,” he said, citing his action of taking the APC to the ECOWAS Court as an instance. He made this statement in an interview in his residence at Leicester an hour after the police officers in a pick up left without the OSD personnel assigned to him. According to him, he was faced by some police officers who, informed him that they received orders from above to executive their duties by removing the state securities, but he refused to let them take away his security from his house until he heard from the Inspector General of Police. He maintained he was happy during the campaigns towards the 2018 general election because the issue of constitutionality came out clearly and the President Julius Maada Bio during in his statement in Parliament that his government will abide by the decisions of the ECOWAS verdict and also follow up on the issue. “One of the issue was depriving me of my constitutional right at the time,” he said, explaining “ today if I heard from a police officers that they are in my house to withdraw all my security officers without the notifying me, I think we are going back to the same thing”. The former Vice President expressed dissatisfaction on who the order from above is as he tried to call the IGP through his cell phone to know who the order from above is but he (IGP) did not pick his call. “ So I told the officers that we will not release anyone because I’m vulnerable if you take them away from me until I hear from the IGP and then later I will talk to the President” he maintained. He referenced former Vice Presidents Solomon Berewa and Albert Joe Demby whom he said had more security personnel than him at this time, disclosing since the new Administration took office he is yet to receive any money as part of his retirement entitlement as government is continuity. Responding to question of him being sacked from office, which might make his case different from the other former Presidents, he disclosed “I was two term elected Vice President and the regional court in it verdict clearly said the whole process was illegal, null and void. He maintained President Bio also alluded to the fact that his removal from office was illegal and that he (President Bio) will abide by the verdict to the ECOWAS court. President Bio in his Statement at the State Opening of Parliament on Thursday 10 May 2018, whiles addressing on issues that has to do with the Executive Power and The Presidency said…“In the New Direction, Government will commit itself to adhere to the rule of law and institutional reforms to maintain law and order in society.
