Sierra Leone Sports: Kingtom wins Mercury online betting trophy

Trophies for the winners

Kingtom have won the Mercury online betting trophy organized by the Kingtom Football Association on Sunday 6th January 2019 at K-Tee Field when they defeated a well balanced and determined Congo Market by a goal to nil (1-0). The only goal was scored in the second half of the match after Congo Market goal was disallowed by the referee about two minutes before Kingtom scored which created some confusion on the field before the match resumed. According to Aruna Turay, who witnessed the match, the referee started the match on a very good footing but during the second half of play he lost control of the match and that caused him to disallow the goal scored by Congo Market. James Bangura, a supporter of Congo Market, said this is the worst final he has witnessed and referees who perform poorly cause most of the confusion in the mini leagues. He went further to thank the manager of the team who was able to put some of the fans under control so that the match could continue. They stated as a team and community that they are disappointed with the organizers and the referees as the final was well orchestrated that the host should win that why they refuse to take the match to the Siaka Stevens Stadium. One of the coaches of Kingtom, Lansana Turay, said winning the trophy was not a surprise to them as a team they have want it takes to win the trophy. He went further to thank the players and the technical team for their support throughout the competition. According to the Secretary General of the Kingtom Football Association, Sullay Costello Kamara, the winning team took home Le10 million and the runners up took home Le5 million. Mercury International sponsored the competition. The man of the match for the final was Abu Kanu. The best midfielder for the competition was Abu Diaby who also won the best player. The best goal keeper went to Bobson Sesay. Best defender was Alphajor Bah. Top goal scorer Abdul Bangura and the best coach was Tejan Kai Kai.
