Sierra Leone News: ACC grants former youth Minister Amb. Koroma Le2bn bail

Former Youth Minister and Ambassador to Iran, Alimamy Koroma, has been granted Le2 billion bail after he was called by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) for questioning on allegations of corruption. Koroma was invited by the ACC in relation to allegations of corruption regarding the proposed Youth Village and Youth Farm projects while he was a Minister. The Youth Village was a $30 million USD project that was supported by PLAN International and other funders, under the leadership of Koroma as Youth Minister. Koroma was appointed Youth Minister in 2007 and he was replaced with Bai Mamoud Bangura in 2016. Koroma was later appointed Ambassador to Iran during the All People’s Congress (APC), Ernest Koroma regime. Both Koroma and Bangura are both being investigated by the ACC for corruption involving the youth projects. Meanwhile, the current Minister of Youth Affairs, Mohamed Orman Bangura, during an update meeting on activities of the Ministry, claimed that billions of Leones meant for the implementation of several projects by the Ministry could not be accounted for by those allegedly involved. Bangura said, “There was no trace of a very huge sum of money remitted for projects in the Ministry.” He said the discovery was made after an internal audit of the Ministry was carried out.
