Sierra Leone News: Cause of death – road traffic accident – former FTC Principal trial

Police have alleged that the former Principal of Freetown Teachers College, Sahr Fillie, ran over his wife with his SUV and left her dying on the street, last year on 26th October 2018. Fillie is charged with murder and careless driving. On Monday 4th February 2019, Detective Joseph J. Cornelius testified before Magistrate Santigie Bangura at the Freetown Magistrate Court No. 1 on Siaka Stevens Street in Freetown. According to the witness, attached to the major incident unit at the Criminal Investigation Unit, an enquiry file of an alleged murder was sent to him from Calaba Town Police Station for further investigation. The file contained four witness statements taken at the Calaba Town Police Station. He said he requested a post-mortem on the victim, which was done on 9th November 2018. He testified the post-mortem result indicated that the deceased died as a result of “Road Traffic Accident.” The witness described how on 15th November 2018, a team of personnel visited the scene of crime at Furniture Junction, Allen Town, more than two weeks after the alleged incident. At the scene of crime, an eyewitness told the Police about what he saw. At the scene of crime, they observed that there were paint marks on the scene made by Sergeant 6477 Jah of the traffic department. The accused, Fillie, made a voluntary statement and he admitted it to be true and correct, Detective Cornelius said. ASP Eric Deen prosecuted the matter, and the defence lawyer was J.M. Jengo, M.Y. Kanu, and S.M. Fomba. Magistrate Santigie Bangura adjourned the matter to 17th February 2019.
