Sierra Leone News: The Bonthe District ‘HUB for Bio’ Ends Annual Retreat in Mattru Jong.

The Bonthe District “HUB for Bio” is a political elite group comprising of mainly prominent sons and daughters from Bonthe District. This group was established in 2017 ahead of the 2018 elections in Sierra Leone with only twenty members who supported President Bio in his political ambition. The HUB supported Bio in areas like voter education, voter mobilization including financial support. The group till press time remains a political think – tank for the Sierra Leone People’s Party in the district. The movement has literally transformed itself into a development organization which members serve as development ambassadors for Bonthe District. Speaking at their maiden meeting after the 2018 elections in Mattru Jong, the chairman of the organization and deputy Ambassador to Liberia Joseph Mustapha Hazeley disclosed that the meeting was the first annual retreat where members reflected on successes, challenges, review the organization’s mission and visions and to look far beyond the organization’s primary mandates and to also tap into current opportunities for future development. The coordinator in an interview with awoko newspaper said the development aspirations of the Bonthe District HUB for Bio will be tailored to fit in the President’s development agenda so that the people in Bonthe district can fairly benefit from those programs.  Ambassador Hazeley said the HUB will grab every opportunity to make sure his District is placed on Government’s development trajectory.

“The district over decades had suffered gross marginalization this district has got huge development problems in almost every sector for example we have problems with our educational system, poor healthcare facilities, high unemployment rate, poor water facilities and so many others” Hazeley explained.Rev. Jonathan Titus Williams, the Financial secretary disclosed that the organization’s membership is slightly above forty [40] but he further stated that, the cutoff number will be sixty [60] membership. Williams called on electorates to exercise patience assuring them of light at the end of the tunnel. The General Manager, Sierra Leone Housing Corporation who doubles as the secretary general for the HUB Charles Musa, being a youth himself, entreated young Bonthenians to stay focused and keep their eyes on the ball. This was a popular campaign slogan used by the SLPP during the last election. Musa while concluding this interview called on the youths not to give up saying more efforts are being made by the Government of Sierra Leone to address their concerns. Presentation of tools including hoes, shovels, rakes machetes among others by the HUB for Bio members to the Bonthe District Council officials in support of the national cleaning exercise formed a major part of the retreat.
