Sierra Leone Sports: 40 PHE teachers attend one-day seminar in Port Loko

The Physical Health Education Department in the Ministry of Basic and Senior Secondary Schools in Port Loko District on Friday 15th February 2018 held a one day athletics sports officiating seminar for 40 PHE teachers. According to Aruna Kamara, the seminar was sponsored by the Unisa Deen Kargbo Dev. Foundation at the District Education Hall in Port Loko. The purpose of the seminar was to update PHE teachers about the new rules in athletics and also to match the international standards in officiating sports meet in the District. According to Unisa Deen Kargbo, the PHE teachers, headed by Francis Toby Bangura, the importance of sports and the medical aspects whenever there is a sports meet cannot be over-emphasized. He advised the PHE teachers to always put on their sport gears to be easily identified in schools. He pleaded to those who are officiating sports meets to always end the sports meet at 6:00 p.m. to avoid the cover of darkness. According to Harold, the National Athletics Technical Director and a facilitator for the training, explained thoroughly the technical aspects of officiating a sports meet. He also taught them the new rules and how to manage time in sports meets and also advised them to practice international standards of officiating. Nancy Gbamoi is one of the participants. She thanked organizers for the training and said they have learned a lot. She promised to implemented all what they have learned with the kids. According to I.S. Bangura, Chair of the Port Loko Council, the training is timely as presently we are in a sporting term. He advised them to take what they have learned very seriously. Francis Toby Bangura is the Supervisor of PHE department in Port Loko District. He thanked the participants for their efforts.
