Sierra Leone Sports: Swimming Association to organize open swimming championship

Sierra Leone Swimming Water Polo and Diving Association will organize a National Open Swimming Championship at some point in March this year. According to the Secretary General of the Association, Mohamed Turay, registration is open to all swimming clubs institutions and individuals. He also stated that all events and all competitors in the championships are governed by FINA rules, and the Sierra Leone Swimming, Diving and Water Polo Association code of conduct.   “And we are going to use FINA trained and certified swimming officials and we are going to have at least two events per competitor for individual events.” The Assistant Secretary of the Association, Abdul Turay, said that the preliminary registration or entry will start today Thursday 28 February 2019. And each club will register Le7,500 per event for individual events while Le10,000 per team for relay events. At the end of the championship activity, certificates, medals, cash or swimming token for swimmers of the first three positions in an event. The Technical Director of the association, Victor Carew, said they are looking forward to such competition, which will give them the chances and opportunity to spot new swimmers that will represent the country in different categories. He went further to call on clubs to come on board to register their swimmers as most of these swimmers need to be exposed locally before going internationally that is why such a competition is important.
