Sierra Leone News: BDO presents 14 boxes of financial documents

Commissioner Biobele Georgewill on Monday, 4 March 2019, inspected documents related to risk hazard payments to health workers made by BDO during the Ebola scourge between 2014 and 2015. According to Steven Gaojia, COO of NERC, Le67 billion was spent on hazard payments. BDO was the fiduciary agency contracted by the World Bank to manage the Ebola funds. According to the Commissioner, in a previous sitting, “I want to know all the money that came in for the Ebola fight…” including hazard payments. Yesterday, fourteen, large metal boxes of documents were brought into the Commission room at the Former Special Court compound by BDO staff. The documents were submitted as evidence of financial disbursements by the National Ebola Response Centre (NERC). The Managing Partner of BDO, Samuel A. Noldred, told Commissioner Georgewill on Thursday 28 February 2019, that they managed Le283 billion and spent Le269 billion on various expenses. As a result of the figures quoted by Noldred, the Commissioner insisted on seeing receipts, requests for payment, etc. made for risk payments. The Commissioner wanted to know if the monies went to the right people. The Commissioner requested BDO present at least one person who was receiving risk hazard payments to relate his experiences. Commissioner Georgewill adjourned the Commission to Wednesday 6 March 2019.
