Sierra Leone Sports:  Boxing Association unveils gym and presents Cuban coaches

The Sierra Leone Boxing Association have unveiled their new gym and presented two Cuban coaches that will prepare boxers for the All African Games this year and the Olympic Games next year. During the program, Bill Beckett, the Chief Executive Officer for African Elite Athletes, said he was in Sierra Leone about 10 years ago and when he returned he decided to help boxing to grow. Bringing the two Cuban coaches will put the boxers on a very good footing. The Director of Sport, Kenneth Brima said he was proud to be part of the event because of the special interest of the Association. The President of the Association, Dura Sesay, said he is a happy man because they were able to unveil the gym. He thanked the Ministry of Sport, National Olympic Committee (NOC) and the sports oversight committee in Parliament. He also stated that they are going to have two new boxing rings, which cost $8,000 USD each. He thanked the RSLAF for their support. The President of the National Olympic Committee, Dr Patrick Coker, said the NOC stands as father for all associations with all the equipment they need to make use of it. He said, “When you talk about Cuba two things run in your mind – medicine and boxing so to have two boxers from Cuba is welcome. We want to see Sierra Leone winning this time around instead of participating.” The Program was chaired by the Deputy Chair for Sport Oversight Committee, Hon. Rollings Kamara. He said sport is not just football that is why they in the Sports Committee are doing everything possible to make sure what they agree in parliament come to pass.
