Sierra Leone News: Sierra Leone sends delegation to Special Olympic meetings

Unisa Deen Kargbo, the chef de Mission of Sierra Leone, said that the Sierra Leone delegation, which includes the Minister of Sport, Ibrahim Nyelenkeh, has arrived in Dubai, UAE, as a special guest to the World Games (Special Olympics)  that will take place in Abu Dhabi and Dubai from 13 to 22nd March. He said the delegation are two senior officials of the National Sports Council, Lambert Sesay: Deputy Director of Sports, Solomon Parsons: IT Specialist and also Unisa Deen Kargbo: President of Paralympics Committee and NOC Chef De Mission. The delegation will participate in different technical presentations and observe the games for implementation in Sierra Leone. Special Olympics are for mentally challenged athletes. The special invitation from the UAE authorities will assist delegates to understand about the athletes’ classification and events. In another development the Sierra Leone Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates, Rashid Sesay, has paid a visit to the Sierra Leone delegation The delegation of technical experts headed by the Sport Minister is only to observe and learn. Sierra Leone did not register athletes because the country lost its membership to the Special Olympics over ten years ago. Minister Nylenkeh seemed determined to restore the movement. The Ambassador actually played a leading role to ensure that the Minister and technical people are invited as observers to learn and meet the key players of the movement. Rashid assured the Sport Minister that he will do all his best to turn the sports sector around in Sierra Leone. Minister of Sports Ibrahim Nyelenkeh disclosed plans to cater for all sports including the physically and mentally challenged. More engagements are expected during the week.
