Sierra Leone Sports: Martial arts clash ahead of All Africa Games

Martial arts, judo, boxing, karate and taekwondo, recently organized a one night competition at the Siaka Stevens Stadium in Freetown. According to Idrissa Massaquoi, the President of the Judo Association, the competition was organized to unite the various martial arts associations and to possibly scope out new talent in the various disciplines. The format of the fights was a knock-out system unto the last stage and the winners went home with Le 500,000 each. In the competition each discipline fights against an opponent from the same discipline. The competition also enabled the various disciplines to select athletes for the upcoming All Africa Games in Morocco August 2019. Massaquoi assured fans that such competitions will be organized every six months. The members also used the night to award and appreciate former and present martial artists as legends. Performances from the old and new fighters in the various disciplines were showcased. The competition was sponsored by G4 Security in Sierra Leone. Dignitaries included the former Ambassador and a former Judoka from Switzerland, other sporting associations and NOC officials.
