Sierra Leone Sports: NOC seeks Gov’t subvention

Chef de mission, Unisa Deen Kargbo, said the Government needs to fund the local Olympic Committee like in most countries around the world so sports can develop. He said a subvention is the only means where the NOC can help associations with training allowances, uniforms for competitions and medal ceremonies etc. “We also need funding for early preparation for games and to assist associations meet qualification standards,” he said. Deen also mentioned that accreditation is very serious. “We cannot afford to be late to enter our team into the system. Apart from beach volleyball, I am still encountering problems from associations. Some will submit without properly filling the forms or without the physical passports.” According to Ibrahim Koroma, a Government subvention to National Olympic Committee (NOC) will go a long way to help NOC and they will in turn use the money to help Associations.
