Sierra Leone News: GT Bank wins award for best mobile application

Guaranty Trust Bank (GTB) has been awarded the West African Excellence in retail financial services award for 2019, by the Asia Banker magazine, for their GT SIM pay product as best mobile application or program. The Head of Corporate Affairs, Arthur Kallon, said the Bank has been operating in Sierra Leone for several years. He said the Bank has deepened its roots to ensure quality services and products. “We are very excited about this award because we believe it is a testimony to the relevance, hard work and quality of our products. We have our customers in mind, looking at what they want and how they can access it,” he said. The award was presented in Nigeria, according to the Managing Director of GT Bank, Ade Biyi.  He said the Asian Banker started as a financial institution publisher in Asia but they are currently assessing retail performance of close to 400 institutions across 40 countries around the globe. “In West Africa they assess the performance of commercial banks in about 12 to 15 countries. In this particular award they took data from the financial institutions operating in Sierra Leone.” The MD said customers can use the GT SIM Pay to pay bills and do transactions without connection to the internet. “There are a lot of mobile banking products in the country but you have to use the internet. The uniqueness of GT SIM Pay is that without an internet connection, you can do your transactions and pay your bills.” He said customers can access their bank accounts, check the balance, and pay bills.   He disclosed they were hoping to decongest their banking halls, which to some extent they have achieved.
