Sierra Leone Sports: Kent Cricket club wins two matches one day

Kent Cricket Club (KCC) have been able to turn their fortunes around and bounce back immediately following a defeat in their last outings. Last Sunday, 12 May 2019, the team played a double header at the Prince of Wales School Ground and won both games. The team’s first encounter was against Phillip. C.C. Kent batted first and finished on a score of 151/7 after their allotted 20 overs. No batsmen were able to dominate; however, there were contributions throughout the order with all of the top five making double figures.  The standout batsmen for KCC were, Musa Ganda, who held the innings together scoring 34 off 32 balls, including 3 boundaries. The standout bowler for Phillip CC was T. Thorlie who took three wickets from his four overs. KCC with the ball in hand were able to take wickets at regular intervals and bowled out their opponents for 136 from 18.2 overs. KCC were able to prevent batsmen going past the 20 run mark, with the standout bowlers being Nabeel Shazad and Sanjay who remarkably shared the same figures of 4 overs 3-22. Kent came out winners of the close game eventually winning by 15 runs. Nabeel Shazad was awarded the man of the match award.  In the afternoon attention turned to the fixture against Wanderers Cricket Club. In this game KCC bowled first and were once again showing their quality with the ball. KCC bowled out Wanderers CC for 79 runs from 14.3 overs. The wickets were shared out amongst all of the bowlers by three wickets apiece for Riasat and K. Pessima. Musa Ganda was able to continue his good day with the bat and was able to steer KCC towards victory; his knock of 33 coming off a mere 19 balls provided the backbone for the chance, which was completed after 7.4 overs. Despite this E. Senesie, a bowler from Wanderers CC, deserves a special mention as he was the only bowler who took wickets during the Kent innings. Musa Sam Ganda was awarded the man of the match award. The team looks to use this forward momentum for the rest of the competition and improve their current position of 5th in the table. Kent will play against Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces Cricket Club on Sunday 19th May at 10am at the Kingtom oval.
